PURPOSE: A locking mode setting and releasing method is provided to set a locking mode of the player by using a compact disk for a password without using a password by a combination of plural keys at driving a compact disk player. CONSTITUTION: In a locking mode setting and releasing method, if a power is supplied,there is checked whether a compact disk to be used as a password is inserted(S11). If the compact disk is inserted, table of content(TOC) period is read from the inserted compact disk(S13). The read TOC period is stored in an EEPROM(S15). A compact disk player locking part is set to a locking mode by use of the stored TOC period as a password, and a security of a compact disk player is completed(S17).
