METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING A DATA FLOW IN A SYNCHRONOUS DATA COMPRESSION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for controlling data flow in a synchronous data compression system are provided which controls flow of data transmitted through a buffer in order to prevent the buffer from overflowing or underflowing. CONSTITUTION: An input data is received, and the received data is output in response to a synchronous signal having a variable frequency. The output data is stored, and then the data is provided at a predetermined data transmission rate. The quantity of the stored data is detected to be compared with a threshold value. A new synchronous signal is generated base on the compared result, and the aforementioned synchronous signal is replaced by the new synchronous signal. The above steps are repeated until all input data is processed.
