The invention concerns a device comprising an energy generator (120) for supplying current to the batteries and/or traction electric motor of a vehicle and a regulating device (130) designed to regulate the electric current supplied by the energy generator (120) depending on the reduction in the level of the battery charge and/or the current required by the traction electric motor. The energy generator (120) comprises a part generating electric current (122) and a motor part (124), preferably non-polluting, designed to drive the current generating part in response to control signals produced by the regulating device (130). Thus the batteries are permanently charged optimally and the device constantly ensures an energy reserve available for the vehicle traction, thereby enabling an electric vehicle to run with complete endurance, even over long distances.
