PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a time difference among video signals due to selection as to whether or not a ghost is to be eliminated. SOLUTION: A ghost detecting means 6 calculates a ghost eliminating coefficient from an input television video signal. An aperture effect correction coefficient memory 7 stores an aperture effect correction coefficient for correcting aperture effect in digital signal processing. Based on an on/off control signal for selecting whether or not a ghost is to be eliminated, a tap gain control means 8 selects the ghost eliminating coefficient or the aperture effect correction coefficient and gives a selected tap gain to a ghost eliminating filter circuit 5, so as to control the tap gain of the ghost eliminating filter circuit 5. The ghost eliminating filter circuit 5, consisting of a tap gain variable transversal filter, eliminates ghosts from the input television video signal in response to the selected tap gain.
