The invention relates to a method for activating and/or deactivating a network component link that is preferably installed in a motor vehicle and consists of a plurality of network components (10-14, 20, 25) that can communicate with each other via a common bus (15) or bus link system (15, 30, 35). A detector device (5) which is arranged in an access area and connected to a first network component (10; 13) produces a detection signal that indicates user access or exit and therefore a probable imminent start-up requirement/ close down requirement with respect to said network components (10-14, 20, 25). Once the detection signal is received by the first network component (10; 13), the state of the first network component (10; 13) is modified from a deactivated state to an activated state or vice-versa and a message is sent from the activated first network component (10; 13) to at least one other network component via the common bus (15), informing it of the change of state.
