PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a recording medium according to each photographing purpose and also to attain the selection between a small and light camera that excels in its portability and a camera that is capable of the recording of a long time by providing the 1st and 2nd units which can be attached to each other and detached from each other. SOLUTION: This camera device consists of a camera part 1 which includes a photographing lens 112, an image pickup device 101, etc., and a main body part 2 which includes a liquid crystal monitor display 204, an MO(magneto- optical) disk drive 207, etc. The parts l and 2 can be attached to each other and also detached from each other. When a lock button provided on the top of the part 1 is pushed, both parts 1 and 2 can be separated from each other. Then it's decided whether the parts 1 and 2 are connected together, an MO disk is loaded and the recording is possible on the MO disk respectively. Thus, the recording is carried out on the MO disk when the disk is set in a recordable state. If the MO disk is not set in a recordable state, the recording is carried out via a built-in memory 109.
