The plasma generator has a cathode (2), around which a working gas flows and that reaches an operating temp. of more than 2000 degree C, and an anode (1) arranged coaxially wrt. the anode. The cathode is of annular or tubular form, is mounted coaxially wrt. the anode and is open on both sides of its annular or tubular body. The axial opening (6) of the cathode is adjustable.
