PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart superior wear resistance, water repellency, weather resistance, antifouling property and chemical resistance by forming a water-repellent film containing a product obtained by hydrolyzing and condensing a silicon alkoxide and a fluoroalkylsilane on a glass substrate in a specified thickness. SOLUTION: A coating solution containing a silicon alkoxide, a fluoroalkylsilane, a solvent and water is prepared. Tetramethoxysilane or the like is used as the silicon alkoxide, CF3(CF2)7CH2CH2Si(OCH3)3 or the like is used as the fluoroalkylsilane and the molar ratio between the former and latter compounds is 1:(0.02-0.17). Ethanol is used as the solvent and hydrochloric acid is added to the water. A glass substrate is coated with the coating solution in such a way that the thickness of a formed water-repellent film is adjusted to 3,700-6,000Åand the resultant film is pre-dried at room temperature for about 10 min and fired at about 200-400 deg.C for about 10-20 min. By this firing, OH groups are condensed to form a condensation product and the objective water-repellent film is formed on the glass substrate.
