PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polynucleotide which has high homology to a nucleic acid coding for RncS polypeptide containing a specific amino acid sequence, and can be used for screening antibacterial compounds, treating and/or diagnosing the infection by staphylococci, and so on. SOLUTION: A newly isolated polynucleotide is provided which contains a sequence which consists of a polynucleotide having homology at 70% or higher to a polynucleotide coding for RncS polypeptide containing the amino acid sequence of the formula, a polynucleotide having homology at 70% or higher to a polynucleotide coding for the same mature polypeptide as one which is expressed by RncS gene contained in a stipulates strain of Staphylococcus aureus, and so on, and can be used for screening antibacterial compounds, treating and/or diagnosing infection by S. aureus, and so on. This polynucleotide is obtained by screening a chromosomal DNA library derived from S. aureus using a partial sequence oligonucleotide as a probe. |
