The invention relates to a distance measurement method for a motor vehicle that is caught in a traffic jam, for instance. The distance from a vehicle located directly behind the vehicle according to the invention is measured and stored in addition to the distance from a vehicle that is located directly in front. Measurements are carried out at short intervals and the values obtained are compared with stored values. If at least one distance changes because the vehicle in question moves on as the traffic jam ends, at least one signal is triggered for the driver inside the vehicle according to the invention. The driver is therefore no longer required to monitor the situation of the traffic until said traffic jam ends. The driving lights can also be turned on when the signal is triggered. |
