An air-pervious laminate for upholstery or decorative purposes comprises a woven or knitted textile support which has been united by heat and pressure to a woven or knitted fabric or fleece of fibres spaced from each other to form a grid pattern, which fibres have been coated, as by dipping, with a synthetic plastic material which will bond with the woven or knitted textile support under the influence of heat and pressure. The plastic covered fabric may be made of synthetic fibres, e.g. polyamides, polyesters, polyacrylonitrile, polymers and copolymers of polyvinyl and polyvinylidene chloride, polyurethanes and polycarbonates and may be coated with a thermoplastic synthetic resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride and its copolymers, polyacrylates, polymethacrylates and their copolymers with vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, butadiene and styrene or other synthetic resins may be used, e.g. polyurethanes, vulcanizates of chlorobutadiene and of chlorosulphonated polyethylene or polypropylene or their copolymers. Natural and synthetic rubbers may also be used to coat the fabric. The textile support may be a woven or knitted fabric of staple rayon or cotton and may be bonded to the coated fabric by passing through an embossing calender while heating as by I.R. radiation.</p> |
