MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium provided with magnetic recording layers having fixed magnetic information with which the erasing and rewriting by a magnetic head and the erasing by a strong magnetic field are difficult and a process for producing the same. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium 1 has the magnetic recording layers formed by laminating a first magnetic layer 3a containing a magnetic material having coercive force within a range of 250 to 5000 Oe and second magnetic layers 3b containing magnetic materials having coercive force within a range of 6000 to 20000 Oe in prescribed coarse and dense patterns in this order on a base material 2. Such magnetic recording medium 1 is produced by applying a magnetic coating material containing the magnetic material having the coercive force within the range of 250 to 5000 Oe on the base material 2 and drying the coating to form the first magnetic layer 3a and subjecting this first magnetic layer to desired magnetic recording, then applying the magnetic coating material containing the magnetic materials having the coercive force within a range of 6000 to 20000 Oe on the first magnetic layer and subjecting the coating to alignment treatment by a prescribed bias magnetic field, then drying to form the second magnetic layer 3b having the fixed magnetic information consisting of the coarse and dense patterns of the magnetic material, thereby forming the magnetic recording layer consisting of the first magnetic layer 3a and the second magnetic layer 3b.
