PURPOSE: 1,1,1-trifluoroethane is prepared by the reaction of HCFC-141b and HCFC-142b not generating by-product. CONSTITUTION: A mixed solution of 1-fluoro-1,1-dichloroethane and 1,1-difluoro-1-chloroethane and anhydrous fluoric acid are reacted at 30-50°C, under pressure of 11- 12 kg/square cm G in the presence of SbCl5 catalyst. Thus, 200 kg of mixed solution of 1-fluoro-1,1-dichloroethane and 1,1-difluoro-1-chloroethane and 39.8 kg of SbCl5 are reacted at 40°C, under the pressure of 11- 12 kg/square cm G, by supplying chlorine gas to maintain degree of the catalyst activity to 5, washed and dried to give the 1,1,1-trifluoroethane.
