PURPOSE: An Al-Ti-V ternary heat resisting alloy is provided, which has a low density as well as superior ordinary temperature toughness by appropriately adding V to an Al-Ti alloy, thereby forming a metallic phase and a divariant region at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION: The low density heat resisting alloy for high temperature structural purpose comprises 5 to 15 atom.% of Ti, 15 to 30 atom.% of V and a balance of Al, and has two phases of Al3(Ti, V) phase and β-(Ti, V) phase. A low density ternary intermetallic alloy comprising Al70Ti10V20 and Al62Ti10V28 having a main constituent of Al is manufactured by arc fusion method using pure elements. The fused material is heat treated at a temperature ranging from about 800 to 1100 deg.C for about 100 hours for soaking. The alloy structure represents an ideal structure in which a β metallic phase having superior toughness is dispersed on a matrix of Al3(Ti,V) phase, and a volume fraction of a metallic phase of β phase is increased or decreased by controlling a content of V in an alloy composition.
