A first radio station receives the transmissions from a second radio station, and an adjustment instruction (TPC) for the transmission power of the second station is determined. The adjustment instruction is transmitted to the second station during a subsequent transmission. The second station adjusts its transmission power accordingly. The adjustment instruction (TPC) refers to a step value (Delta TCPup, Delta TCPdown) for increasing or decreasing the transmission power, where Delta TCPup is greater than Delta TCPdown.
