PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a back face contamination caused by an ink adherence to a pressurizing roller by preventing scumming, a transfer fault or an image fault caused by a cleaning fault in an ink jet transfer recording and maintaining a cleaning capability for a long period. SOLUTION: The apparatus for transfer type ink jet recording for obtaining an image by injecting an ink to an intermediate transfer layer 1a according to a record signal from an ink jet recording head 3 and then transferring it to a recording medium 10 comprises a cleaning member 11 spread between two rollers 15. After the layer 1a is coated with a liquid or the member 11 is impregnated with the liquid, the member 11 is brought into contact with the layer 1a, the member 11 is continuously or intermittently moved, and wound by one of the two rollers 15 to wipe off residual ink on the layer 1a.
