PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel pump inspecting method capable of precisely judging suitability of a clearance between the inner peripheral surface of a cylinder and the outer peripheral surface of a plunger, and an inspecting device to be used in the inspecting method. SOLUTION: Test fluid is fed into a fuel pump 10 in which a plunger 13 is inserted in a cylinder 12 so as to be reciprocated, the flow rate of the test fluid passing a part between the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder 12 and the outer peripheral surface of the plunger 13 is measured, to determine the suitability of a clearance between the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder 12 and the outer peripheral surface of the plunger 13. At this time, the temperature of the test fluid and the pressure of a high pressure chamber 14 are detected as the state amount of the test fluid, and the measured flow rate is compensated (temperature compensation and pressure compensation) by the detected state amount. Therefore, the suitability of a clearance between the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder 12 and the outer peripheral surface of the plunger 13 is judged on the basis of the compensated flow rate.
