PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such an underground construction that a frictional force between the underground construction and upper soil can be reduced in an earthquake and an increase in direct soil pressure can be prevented whereby cost increase can be restrained without the need to increase strength to a level as high as those in conventional cases. SOLUTION: An earthquake-resistant underground construction comprises an underground construction main body 1 in a buried condition and a slip portion 5 made of low-friction material laid over the upper slab 1a of the underground construction main body 1. The slip portion 5 is laid over a wider range than the upper area of the upper slab 1a, whereby the end 5a of the slip portion 5 is placed in a position a predetermined distance away from the underground construction main body 1, so that a frictional force between the low-friction material and the underground construction main body 1 is made smaller than a frictional force generated between upper soil 2 and the underground construction main body 1 when the upper soil 2 is directly placed on the underground construction main body 1, and so that direct soil pressure is prevented from increasing.
