A water-based composition for treating hair wherein the composition contains (a) a polymer selected from cationic, amphoteric, zwitterionic and nonionic polymers, (b) an alkyl polglycoside corresponding to formula (I):RO-(Z)x(I)in which R is an alkyl radical containing 6 to 22 carbon atoms, Z is a mono- or oligosaccharide, x is a number of 1.1 to 5, or adducts thereof with 1 to 10 moles of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, and (c) a fatty alcohol.
