PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain or prevent a short circuit in an electrode group even if burrs are generated in at least one of a positive electrode and a negative electrode in winding via a separator placed between the positive/negative electrodes by using a synthetic resin sheet as the separator, having tearing strength not less than a specific value. SOLUTION: An alkaline secondary battery is provided with a separator composed of a synthetic resin sheet having tearing strength not less than 200 gf[mN]. If this separator is an insulator having a sufficient hydrophilic property and gas permeability, the material is not particularly limited, but it is desirable to be formed of a sheet-like substance composed of polyolefin fiber from the viewpoint of improving a characteristic of the alkaline secondary battery. Use of this separator is effective in a secondary battery particularly improving a filling rate of an active material and having a conductive three-dimensional base board easily generating burrs when winding. The alkaline secondary battery capable of enhancing retentivity of an electrolyte in the separator and having a long charge/discharge cycle service life can be provided. |
