TEMPERATURE-SENSITIVE GEL FOR SUSTAINED DELIVERY OF PROTEIN DRUGS

PURPOSE: Pharmaceutical compositions for the delivery of pharmacologically active proteins are provided, which enables sustained delivery of polypeptide drugs by temperature-sensitive polymer and(or) poloxamer. CONSTITUTION: Pharmaceutical compositions for the sustained delivery of protein drugs comprise a polymeric matrix having thermally gelating properties such as poloxamer illustrated by formula I (HO(C2H4O)b(C3H6O)a(C2H4O)bH) in which a discrete suspension of at least one biologically active macromolecular polypeptide which retains over 90 percent of its biological activity is incorporated. Furthermore, the concentration of the macromolecular polypeptide is greater than 0.5 percent by weight of the composition.
