PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain sticking of toner to a portion where an electrostatic latent image is not formed in an image carrier and to obtain an image reduced in fogging by preventing the contact of carried toner with the image carrier when carrying the toner to developing area opposite the image carrier by an electric- field generation means which generates a progressive-wave type electric field. SOLUTION: AC voltage different in phase are applied from an AC power source 12 to electrode groups 11a, 11b and 11c arranged at required intervals (p). An electric-field generation means 10 designed so that a progressive-wave type electric field acts between the electrode groups 11a, 11b and 11c is used. In the carrying of toner 1 to a developing area opposite an image carrier 2 by means of the progressive-wave type electric field by the electric-field generation means 10, the toner 1 to be carried to the developing area does not contact the image carrier 2 and, in the developing area, the toner 1 is carried with a specific interspace (d) between the image carrier 2 and itself. |
