PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a base body for an image carrying body with a low production cost having proper elasticity by spirally laminating strip tapes to form a multilayered structure. SOLUTION: The base body 1 for an image carrying body is a cylinder produced by spirally laminating a strip tape 2 into two or more layers. As for the tape material of the strip tape 2, a strip tape material comprised of a tape paper material produced by laminating single layers or combination of coated paper, laminated paper or the like is preferably used, and more preferably, a paper-plastic tape material is used. The thickness of the tape 2 is preferably <=500μm. The number of layers of the tape 2 is determined based on the material and thickness of the tape 2 and strength, elasticity or the like required for the base body 1, and 2 to 10 layers, especially 2 to 5 layers are preferable. At least for the outermost layer of the base body 1, the tape 2 is preferably wound with the edges butted without overlap to each other from the viewpoint of surface smoothness.
