PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the retrieval of a scene and program searching at high speed at reproduction. SOLUTION: Input video data are stored in a memory by an interface. A scene change detection circuit 26 detects the presence/absence of scene change from present frame data fed from the memory 24 and the data of two frames before fed from a buffer memory 48. When a scene change is detected, a scene change information addition circuit 30 obtains the frame data from a frame data memory 24, adds scene change information to the pack of the frame data and outputs them to a changeover switch 32. Under the control of the scene change detection circuit 26, the changeover switch 32 selects the output of the scene change information addition circuit 30, when the scene change is present or selects the frame data from the memory 24 when the scene change is absent, and outputs them to a recording processing circuit 34.
