PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a body identification device and method capable of identifying body type easily and properly. SOLUTION: A plurality of vessels 1 (such as plates) are held on a carrying passage 2 (such as a belt conveyor) provided on a rack 3, and a color camera 4 as an optical characteristic information input means is installed above the preset position of the carrying passage 2. In addition, an image processing device 5 for performing a data comparison, data identification or the like using an output signal from the color camera 4 as input data is installed, together with a display device 6 (such as a monitor) for indicating necessary data using an output signal from the image processing device 5 as input data.
