PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a food having improved safety and a high quality without damaging the food by bringing the food into contact with a gas mixture containing an effective amount of ozone to disinfect the food. SOLUTION: This method for disinfecting a food comprises bringing the food selected from the group consisting of grains, meats, chickens, fishes, shellfishes, breads, cereals, pastas, juices, fruits, vegetables and snack products into contact with a gas mixture containing ozone in an amount of 0.1 ppm to 15 wt.%, for example, for 1 sec to 10 hr. The gas mixture containing the ozone is prepared by supplying oxygen, air or a mixture of oxygen with air into an ozone generator before the food is treated. The food is preferably disinfected with an ozone-containing gas mixture under a pressure of 0.1-20 bars. |
