PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart an excellent friction coefficient and an excellent lubricating performance to a lubricant composition particularly under low temperature atmosphere and under various use conditions by comprising an ester compound of a perfluoropolyether containing a carboxyl group at a terminal and a higher fatty acid having a carboxyl group at a terminal. SOLUTION: A lubricant composition comprises a higher fatty acid having a terminal carboxyl group represented by the formula R1-COOH (wherein R1 is explained later on) and an ester compound of a perfluoropolyether containing a carboxyl group at a terminal represented either by the formulas, Rf-COOR1 or R1OCO-Rf-COOR2 (wherein Rf is a perfluoropolyether group; R1 is a long chain hydrocarbon group and R2 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group) to prepare the objective composition. The composition is suitably used onto a magnetic recording layer on which a protective layer of a high hardness is formed, and can improve a traveling property, endurance and a drop out property.
