PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new kind of yeast, fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, having nonsexually flocculating character, easily separable in beer brewing process because of being precipitable following flocculation after cultured, therefore important in beer manufacturing process. SOLUTION: This new kind of yeast is a fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe variant having nonsexually flocculating character [e.g. a fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe ARC 027 strain (FERM P-16989)], being important in beer manufacturing process because of enabling much labor saving for cumbersome operations in the separation step for the yeast and culture solution after cultivation. This variant is obtained by the following procedure: a Schizosaccharomyces pombe TP4-1D strain having no nonsexual flocculency is treated with a mutagenic substance such as ethyl methanesulfonate, bacteria having nonsexual flocculency are selected from the strain thus treated, and the bacteria with the nonsexual flocculency representing dominant mutation are selected from the bacteria selected above.
