PURPOSE: A method capable of preventing a mode of a television receiver from being changed to a teletext mode when a teletext is absent at a teletext mode is provided. CONSTITUTION: In a method for preventing a mode of a television receiver from being changed to a teletext mode, it is judged whether a teletext is in a turn-on state when a television receiver and a main power thereof are in a turn-on state. It is judged whether a teletext signal is present when the main power of the television receiver is in a turn-on state. When the teletext signal is present, a mode of the television receiver is changed to a teletext mode. When the teletext signal is absent, a message indicating the teletext signal is absent is displayed for a predetermined time. When the mode of the television receiver is changed to the teletext mode, it is judged whether a teletext signal is present. When the teletext signal is absent, the mode of the television receiver is changed to an original mode. It is judged whether a main power of the television receiver is in a turn-off state.
