The arrangement has a stationary light source (8) spaced from the rotating object (4), to direct a light beam towards the object along an optical axis. A stationary optical sensor (9) next to the source generates reference pulses. A mirrored element (14) on the object reflect the light to the sensor in a certain object position. A linear screening element (16) in front of the sensor partially screens the sensor from the reflected light beam. The screening element is arranged with its longitudinal extent transverse to the deflection plane of the reflected light beam (12'). An Independent claim is also included for a circuit for generating reference pulses for object position detection.
