PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize miniaturization, to reduce the number of parts and to facilitate assembly adjustment by using two magnetic optical crystals of the same material adjacently arranged on the same plane as a polarized light rotating means and magnetizing them in a reverse direction to each other. SOLUTION: 1st to 4th magnetic optical elements 7 to 10 are made of the same material, and the magnetic optical crystals 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 are made adjacent to each other on the same plane. In such a case, the crystal having square hysteresis is used as the crystals 7 to 10, so that the crystals 7 to 10 are actuated without external magnetism and the polarized light rotating direction of an incident light beam is decided according to a previously magnetized direction. The crystals 7 and 8 (and 9 and 10) are previously magnetized in the reverse direction to each other, and then adjacently arranged on the same plane. Then, they function as the polarized light rotating means functioning so that the polarization direction of the light made incident on the crystal 7 (9) may be rotated right-handedly by 45 deg. and the polarization direction of the light made incident on the crystal 8 (10) may be rotated left-handedly by 45 deg..
