An ambient light sensing circuit and a flat panel display device having the same are provided to improve visibility of the display device by automatically adjusting brightness of the display device according to the ambient light. An ambient light sensing circuit includes a photo detector(PD), a first capacitor(C1), a second capacitor(C2), and a transistor(T1). The photo detector generates a current proportional to the ambient brightness. The first capacitor is charged by a first voltage source, connected to the photo detector and discharged. The second capacitor is connected to the first capacitor. The transistor is connected to the second capacitor and outputs a current from the first voltage source corresponding to a voltage stored in the second capacitor which is changed by coupling between the first and second capacitors.
