PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent a protective circuit from working before a shutdown voltage, even if secondary batteries connected in series are used as the power supply of electronic equipment by balancing the charges of the batteries under ideal conditions, and protecting the batteries so that each battery is not overdischarged. SOLUTION: This secondary battery charge balancing method balances the charges of a plurality of secondary batteries 1 connected in series, by causing the secondary batteries 1 with large charges to discharge. The method includes trickle charging the secondary batteries 1 on detecting that the battery voltages are lower than end voltages close to the last stage of discharges, then detecting the voltage of each battery, and causing balanced discharges of the batteries 1 with voltages higher than a preset balancing voltage, while not discharging the batteries 1 with voltages lower than the balancing voltage.
