SETTING METHOD FOR INITIAL POWER LEVEL IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately set an initial power level by calculating an interference measure from pilot power received by a mobile station and setting the initial power level of a forward direction link based on the interference measure. SOLUTION: A base station starts (210) the setting process of a call in response to an access probe from the mobile station and appropriately sets (220) the initial power level by using a pilot parameter Ec/Io (energy per chip to interference density) received by the mobile station obtained within access probe transmission. Then, the base station calculates a difference between the Ec/Io received by the mobile station and the Ec/Io transmitted by the base station and calculates (230) the interference measure. Then, the base station uses the interference measure and appropriately sets the initial power level on a forward direction link traffic channel. In the case that the interference measure indicates the interference of a high level, a high initial power level is set for the forward direction link traffic channel.
