PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize possible signal distortion by sequentially reading a digital expression of all charge signals from a photodetector, as digital signals from a series of register circuits. SOLUTION: An image sensor 202 in an image system 200 has photodetectors and a system 206 that measures an elapsed time of all the photodetectors 204. A digital expression of an electric signal is obtained from the measurement system 206 and damped to a register circuit 208. A final digital signal or image is obtained by reading the expression from the register circuit 208 serially or partially in parallel. Since the image system 200 or the image sensor 202 of this system has no conventional A/D converter an output signal from the image sensor 202 is a digital format signal. Furthermore, since the image sensor 202 does not employ A/D converter of a large capacity, the size of the image sensor 202 is kept the same as that of a conventional image sensor.
