摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect a waveguide element and an optical fiber array with higher coupling efficiency by making the spacings between V-grooves to be worked on a substrate member partially or wholly wider than the spacing between the waveguide cores of the waveguide type element to be connected to the optical fiber array. SOLUTION: The spacings between the V-grooves are made partially or wholly wider than the spacing between the waveguide cores 12 in such a manner that the distance L between the V-grooves 10 at both ends to be worked on the substrate of the V-grooves 10 satisfies equation 103×β<(L-L0)/L0<10-12×βwhen the distance between both ends core 12 of the waveguides is defined as L0 and the shrinkage rate on curing of an adhesive 11 used for mounting of the optical fiber array asβ. As the result, the distance between the cores 12 of the optical fibers which are parted mostly with each other among the optical fibers 6 constituting the optical fiber array may be more approached to the distance between the cores which are parted mostly with each other among the waveguide cores 12 of waveguide chips 5, therefor, the waveguide element and optical fiber array can be connected with higher coupling efficiency.
