The invention relates to a device comprised of a rotor chamber (1) in which a rotor (4) having a vertical rotor axis (3) is arranged. The rotor (4) has the shape of a conical envelope (22) in at least the radially outer third thereof. The inventive device also comprises guide blades (11) for circulating the starting materials or the product. The guide blades (11) are statically arranged on the inner wall (6) of the rotor chamber (1) directly above the plane (9) of the upper edge (5) of the rotor (1). The guide blades essentially have the shape of a segment of a circle or of a spiral in the cross section with regard to the rotor axis (3). The inner ends of the guide blades lie approximately in the middle section of the rotor radius. The conical envelope (22) can comprise gas passages which are at least partially two-dimensional and which are provided in the form of holes or sieves. The inventive method relates to the use of said device for producing pourable products which are granulated, or for producing grains which are coated with a liquid or suspension, or grains which are provided with an enveloping layer. The pourable products or grains are composed of at least one powdery starting material and one binding agent. In addition, the device can be used to dry the pourable product during or after production of the same.
