PURPOSE: A facsimile apparatus is provided to force a transmitter to select a mode by outputting a voice guidance message for a mode selection when a terminating signal is received to the facsimile apparatus. CONSTITUTION: The facsimile apparatus comprises: a modulating/demodulating part for modulating data to be transmitted or demodulating data to be received; a network adjusting device coupled to a telephone line for selecting a path of a telephone mode or a fax mode according to a predetermined control; a terminating signal sensing part for sensing a terminating signal received from the telephone line; a mode select controlling part in which a voice guidance message for a mode select is stored as data; and a control part for reading the voice message for the mode select from the mode select message storage part when the call signal is received and modulating the read data to an analog signal through the modulating/demodulating part, wherein the control part controls the network adjusting part on the basis of the received mode select data and performs the mode switching.
