<p>A compsn. which comprises: (a) an organic peroxide component of peroxy di-carbonate cpds. and their mixts.; and (b) sufficient stabiliser to retard the rate of decomposition of the organic peroxide component. The stabiliser is ~a-hydroxyalkyl peroxide of formulae (I) R2-C(R1)(R3)-OO-C(OH)(R5)-R4 (I) R1 = -H, -OH, 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, phenyl substd. with 1-22C alkyl, halogen, and/or hydroxy; R2, R3 and R4, R5 = -H, 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, phenyl substd. with 1-22C alkyl, halogen and/or hydroxy; or R2, R3 or R4, R5 and the C atom to which they are attached are 4-10C cycloalkyl ring; n = 1-10; R6 = H, 1-22C alkyl, -OH, phenyl, or phenyl substd. with 1-22C alkyl, halogen and hydroxy; R7 - R10 = -H, 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, or phenyl substd. with 1-22 C alkyl, halogen and/or hydroxy. Also claimed is a method for inhibiting the rate of decomposition of a peroxy di-carbonate cpd. by adding an effective amt. of stabiliser of cpds. (I) or (II).</p> |
