PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an immunoactivator or an antitumor agent having an excellent macrophage activating effect by including a specific compound (salt) as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: The immunoactivator or the antitumor agent is obtained by including a compound of formula I [Rl-R4 are each a (substituted) 2-20 C alkanoyl; R5 is H or methyl] as an active ingredient. The compound belonging to one group in compounds of formula I shows an excellent macrophage activating effect and is useful as an immunoactivator or an antitumor agent and the compound belonging to the other group possesses an excellent macrophage activity inhibitory effect and is useful as an antiphlogistic, an antiautoimmune disease agent or an antisepsis agent. The compound of formula I can be produced by three processes using, for example, a compound of formula II and a compound of formula III as starting materials. The daily dose is preferably 0.001-2,000 mg per an adult.
