PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely catch, deform and divide chips flowing unstably at the time of low depth of cut, by forming a pair of spherical projections on a nose part, symmetrically relative to a bisector for roughly bisecting the nose part and also a projecting part adjacently to the tip center side of the spherical projections. SOLUTION: In a region of low depth of cut, hollows 16 lead the flow of chips to a lower position of an inclined part 10, and makes it collide surely with projections 13 to thereby give larger deformation. Thereafter, the chips are hit against the projections 13 and bent. At that time, the chips are contacted with the two projections 13 at each one spot, two spots in total, therefore, even the chips having a narrow width and an unstable outflow direction can be caught surely. And besides, as the surfaces of the projections 13 are spherical, the contact area becomes minimum regardless of the width and the flowing direction of the chips, therefore, the flow of the chips is smooth and the cutting resistance is not heightened. Even if the chips overflow the projections 13, they collide with a projecting part 14, and are bent and divided.
