PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a re-hanging work for the hook of a safety belt at the time of a worker's going up and down a ladder, and to ensure smooth and safe ascent or decent. SOLUTION: A safety device 4 for a ladder 1 laid on a structure 11 is formed out of a rail 5 laid near and along the ladder 1, a plurality of arms 6 fitted to the rail 5 at preset intervals in a vertical direction for fixing the hook 3 of the safety belt 2 hung from the rail 5, and a cord 9 having one end fixed to the forward ends of the arms 6 and the other end suspended through a sheave 8 attached to the rail 5. In this case, the forward ends of the arms 6 are energized for projection outside the rail 5, and restricted with a stopper so as not to turn by a present angle or more. In addition, the arms 6 retreat in the rail 5 when the cord 9 is pulled.
