The invention relates to a method and a device for evaluating a digital data flow in which data is transmitted in packets. Each packet has a synchronous bit and there are predetermined bit positions in the packets, to which marker bits are transmitted. The marker bits that are transmitted to the predetermined bit positions of the packets are compared with reference bits. When it has been established that all of the marker bits that are compared with each other match respectively, an indicator signal is generated, signalling that the compared marker bits are identical. The marker bits that are to be compared with each other respectively are compared in a bit-serial comparator.
