1,122,607. Consolidating scrap. TEZUKA KOSAN K..K. 5 Dec., 1966 [3 Sept., 1966; 10 Sept., 1966; 30 Sept., 1966], No. 54425/66. Heading B3H. Scrap metal blocks 1 for melting in an electric furnace are consolidated in a press and provided with longitudinal slots 2. The latter assist melting from the centre to the outside. The blocks are preferably of iron and are consolidated in a press casing 5 having ridges 7 for forming the slots. These ridges may be welded or screwed to the casing or merely supported therein by projections (30), Fig. 5 (not shown); alternatively they may be made of wood and subsequently burned in the furnace. Pressure is applied by a ring 23 actuated by four oil pressure rams 21, 22 and carrying further spot pressure rams 20 actuated by oil pressure cylinders 24. Additional pressure is also applied by a central disc 11 with cross-ribs 15. This disc is pressed downwardly by oil pressure rams 12, 13 and is rotated through gearing 18, 19 by a motor 17. The blocks may be cylindrical or slightly tapered or they may be of square, triangular or semicircular cross-section. Casing 5 is movable horizontally along rails 28 from a charging to a pressing position.
|
