SOLUTION: When a steering wheel 2 is navigated, an electric motor 8 is driven corresponding to a steering torque signal T by a steering torque sensor 12 to power-assist the manual steering torque, and its motive power is converted into the auxiliary torque boosted through a hypoid gear 4 to act on a steering shaft 3. A control means generates a motor control signal corresponding to the difference between a target torque signal corresponding to the steering torque signal T and a motor torque signal on the basis of the output of a motor current detecting means 15. On this occasion, a switching means 16 is mounted near a driver's seat for arbitrarily permitting or forbidding the output of a correction signal from a vehicle behavior judging means to correct the target torque signal.
