The appts. to condense a drawn sliver has a clamping roller (20) which presses the perforated carrier belt (17) at the sliding surface, and is connected to a drive (24) to detach it from the belt (17) on a breakage. The drive (24) has a transmission wheel (27) which has a drive action on the drive wheel (26) of the clamping roller (20), and is disengaged by an axial sliding movement. The transmission wheel (27) and drive wheel (26) both have angled teeth (29) which mesh together. During a normal drive operation, the axial force at the teeth is compensated by a spring unit, where the spring force is smaller than the axial force through a break in the carrier belt (17). When the transmission wheel (27) is disengaged, the spring unit is at a positioner to fix the disengaged setting, using a holding magnet.
