The invention relates to a method and device for preparing fibrous vegetable material, especially hemp plants, for further processing. The fibrous vegetable material (1) is introduced into the receiving shaft (2) of a tobac co cutting machine known per se in the tobacco processing industry. It is press ed by means of a continuously operating pressing machine (7) with rotating and converging press conveyors (4, 6), broken up and cut into sections (21) of a desired length when it exits from an opening (14) by means of a cutting devi ce with rotating blades (17). The fibre components (34) and the wood and stem components (36) are separated from each other for further individual processing. One advantage of the invention is that the fibre components are separated from the wood and stem components in a mass of vegetable material with high throughput rates in a rational and effective manner.
