A device for ejecting a self-drilling shell 26 from a tapered socket 60 in the chuck 22 of a percussive drill 20 comprises a lever 30 having extremities 34 at one end adapted to be received in the ends of a passage 64 transverse to the socket, and cams 80 on the extremities arranged to force the shell from the socket when the extremities are located in the ends of the passage and the device is pivoted about the axis of the passage. The device forms a handle by which the shell may be turned during drilling, the chuck being fixed to an adapter 48 rotatable in the drill. The debris from drilling passes between the ends 82 of the extremities to a suction tube 32<SP>1</SP>.
