PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make efficient character input performable by decreasing the frequency of key depression up to displaying of a target character by switching and displaying display characters in the display order of a character display order table into which the decreasing display order of the use frequencies of characters is entered by referring to the character display order table. SOLUTION: To a ten-key, KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters are allotted and their display order is the decreasing order of their use frequencies. The display order is stored in the form of the character display order table in a memory of the character input device. When one of the ten-key is pressed, the character in the head place of the display order is displayed first by referring to the character display order table corresponding to the key. Then when the ten-key is pressed repeatedly, the character in the next place is displayed. When a character to be inputted is displayed through the key operation, the character is determined by pressing another one of the ten-key or pressing a dedicated determination input key.
