<p>The gas injector 150 to be installed in the wall of a vessel (12) comprising molten metal, which injector comprises a casting (163) which confines an inlet chamber (151) and is provided with an inlet fitting (153) and at least one outlet port (154). The injector further comprises a refractory body (162) attached to the casting around the outlet ports (154); a longitudinal rod (158) accommodated in the refractory body (162) and extending from the outlet ports (154) to front walls. The rod (158) is made of a gas-tight refractory material and comprises gas passages extending along the entire length of the extruded rod (158), the passages communicating with the gas inlet chamber (51), and being of such small dimensions that in use, melt is substantially unable to intrude into the passage. The rod (158) is connected to an outlet of the inlet chamber (151) and is gas-tight sealed against the said rod (158) by means of a gland connector that has a gland packing ring (161) of a compressible exfoliated graphite.</p> |
